I'm Vegan

Gary L. Francione is Distinguished Professor of Law and Nicholas deB. Katzenbach Scholar of Law and Philosophy at Rutgers University School of Law-Newark. While traveling about N. America meeting people for I’m Vegan, the crew stopped for an on-camera chat with the professor about animal rights and veganism.

Hi, I’m Vegan viewers, friends, and fans. I have some new tools at your disposal.

You and those you know can now subscribe to I’m Vegan via iTunes, through which you can download the h.264 1080p MPEG-4 files used as masters at the blip.tv site (one of the other hosts I’m using for propagating the series). These files will download as podcasts, then you can locate them on your computer through iTunes (right-click or ctrl-click on the episode to bring up a menu, then chose “Show in Finder”). Remember that you are not permitted to modify the profiles, but you might find it useful to download them for use instead of relying on embedding. For instance, you can save the files to a DVD to pass on to others or to show people in a kiosk or classroom.

Due to a technical glitch, it may take some time for I’m Vegan: Regina to show up in the list.

Also, note that the home page has changed a little for the sake of simplicity. However, it may not be obvious that you use the arrows located to the right and left of the main video to navigate to other video profiles currently available in I’m Vegan’s YouTube channel.

Finally, below the video I have added some information on veganism. For those non-vegans you send these videos or talk to about this project (or really anyone you want to look into veganism further), you can refer to them to the home page at vegandocumentary.com for an introduction to the whys and hows of veganism.

This short segment was cut from Risa’s final profile. In this bonus clip, Risa recalls when she used to eat KFC, and how “distancing” worked to keep her from thinking about what (or who) we are eating.

Julia is an 11-year vegan who was living in Springfield, MO at the time this profile was shot, where she studied social work at a Christian college. She’s 26 years old.

In this video, Julia discusses her relationships with others as a vegan, gives advice to people considering veganism, and talks a little about her reasons for being vegan.

Born in India, Minku started out vegetarian but started eating flesh products in the U.S. He has been vegan for several years now, and currently lives in Chicago, IL. He works as a pedicab driver and does animal rescue with his girlfriend, Emelda, and he would like to open a vegan co-op some day.

It’ll be several hours before the first documentary videos are (finally!) ready for viewing, but they are uploading to YouTube as I write this. You can watch them there, on the Videos page here, or even on the home page, but I also will blog about them individually to make sure blog subscribers are notified when the videos are ready to view.

I have to keep this quick, since it’s pretty late, and I have to be up at 6am.

Editing on I’m Vegan has been on hold for a couple of months due to a restaurant I am working to open here in Boston.
